: Potential of Peanut Callus extract rich in Resveratrol in stimulating hair growth and preventing hair loss.
Article summary: Potential of Peanut Callus extract rich in Resveratrol in stimulating hair growth and preventing hair loss.
This research studied the potential of extracts from Peanut Callus (peanut tissue culture) with high amounts of resveratrol. To help stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss problems. By comparing with extracts from Peanut seeds, peanut sprouts and standard resveratrol
Origin and importance
Hair loss (Alopecia) affects the confidence and mental health of many people. Although there are treatments such as Minoxidil or Finasteride, they are limited by side effects, cost, and long-term use.
Therefore, there is interest in finding natural substances that can help:
Reduce hair loss
Stimulate the birth of new hair
Safe for long-term use
Resveratrol is a polyphenol with high antioxidant activity. Helps stimulate hair follicle cells and protects against damage from oxidative stress. Therefore, it is an important substance that was studied in this work.
Method of study
1. Preparation of extracts
The researcher took 3 parts of peanuts to study:
Seed
Bean sprouts
Callus (tissue culture)
Extracted with 95% ethanol
Then measure the amount. Resveratrol by HPLC found that:
Callus = 191.97 ppm
Sprout = 131.37 ppm
Seed = Resveratrol not found.
Shows that Callus has the highest resveratrol content.
Laboratory test results Using human hair follicle cells (Human Dermal Papilla Cells: hDPCs)
2. Stimulating the division of hair follicle cells
Peanut Callus Extract stimulates cell proliferation the best.
Callus = 20.44%
Sprout = 11.99%
Seed = 8.45%
Close to standard resveratrol (22.29%)
3. Stimulation of Growth Factors
Callus extract increases the expression of genes important for hair growth, including:
IGF-1
KGF
HGF
VEGF
Specifically:
IGF-1 = 4.50 times
KGF = 4.89 times
HGF = 3.11 times
which is clearly higher than other extracts
4. Inhibition of the enzyme 5α-Reductase
This enzyme is involved in the formation of DHT, which is a major cause of hair loss.
Inhibition effect:
Callus = 27.83%
Sprout = 21.99%
Seed = 11.07%
Shows that Callus is the most effective in reducing hair loss.
Clinical Trial
60 volunteers
People with mild to moderate hair loss problems
Divided into 3 groups:
Placebo
Hair serum + 15% Peanut Callus Extract
Hair serum + 0.5%Resveratrol
Use continuously for 12 weeks.
Clinical results
Reduce hair loss
Callus extract = 66.98%
Resveratrol = 61.47%
Reduce hair loss from combing
Callus extract = 83.92%
Resveratrol = 68.19%
Increase the rate of hair growth (Anagen/Telogen Ratio)
Callus extract = 3.3
Resveratrol = 2.8
Shown that it significantly stimulates the growth of new hair.
Safety
- Passed the skin irritation test.
- No irritation found
- No side effects
It is considered safe for use in cosmetic products.
Important conclusions
Peanut Callus Extract rich in resveratrol Effective in:
- Stimulates hair growth
- Reduce hair loss
- Inhibits DHT
- Increases the division of hair follicle cells
- Really safe to use
Therefore, it has high potential to be developed as a “natural active ingredient for products to reduce hair loss and accelerate hair growth” in the cosmeceutical and hair care products group in the future.
