Resveratrol reduces the effects of PM2.5 particulate matter - oxidative injury on lung cells by attenuating autophagy regulation.

Resveratrol relieves particulate matter (mean diameter < 2.5 μm)-induced oxidative injury of lung cells through attenuation of autophagy deregulation.

Abstract: Oxidative stress and

Inflammation is particularly associated with lung injury caused by fine dust particles. (mean diameter < 2.5 μm; PM2.5) autophagy, which plays an important role in various physiological conditions. Helps adjust cell homeostasis and adapt to stress. Resveratrol is a phytoalexin that has powerful antioxidant effects against cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. In this study We investigated the effect of resveratrol on PM2.5-induced oxidative injury. The possible roles of nuclear factor, erythroid-related factor-2, factor 2, and autophagy were explored. In this research Human bronchial epithelial cells were exposed to PM2.5 and examined for cytotoxicity and oxidative stress markers. The results showed that PM2.5 decreased cell viability and increased lactate dehydrogenase levels. The levels of malondialdehyde and reactive oxygen species increased. PM2.5 also induced a significant increase in inflammatory cytokines. including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, IL-1β. It has been reported that resveratrol intervention abolished PM2.5-induced oxidative injury through downregulating autophagy. The findings from this study provide insights into the molecular mechanisms of lung interference during PM2.5 exposure.
