Effect of Resveratrol on Serum Levels of Type II Collagen and Aggrecan in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis: A Pilot Clinical Study

Abstract: Treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) remains a challenging concern. Preclinical studies have gathered evidence regarding the efficacy of resveratrol in reversing osteoarthritis damage. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of resveratrol as monotherapy on serum levels of collagen type II (Col 2-1) and aggrecan (a structural component of cartilage) in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

In conclusion, oral administration of resveratrol as monotherapy (not in combination with other drugs) significantly improved the clinical status of patients.
