Beneficial Oxidative Stress-Related trans-Resveratrol Effects in the Treatment and Prevention of Breast Cancer

Resveratrol is one of the most investigated polyphenols for its multiple biological activities and beneficial effects. Most of this has to do with its ability to scavenge free radicals and reduce oxidative stress. Resveratrol has also been shown to have the ability to stimulate the production of antioxidant enzymes. It interacts with many signaling pathways involved in the development of cancer tumors and has side effects associated with chemotherapy. In this review article we summarize the main findings on the effects resveratrol can have in helping to prevent and adjuvant treatment of breast cancer. A brief overview of the main sources of resveratrol is also provided as well as some approaches to improving its bioavailability.
